Desire to Live

Time makes today tomorrow's memory. Weeks seem to pass us by like blurred telephone poles flashing past the window of this speeding train called life. Are you one that says, "I'll take my chances with eternity."

Eternity is a long time to be wrong. Why would you want to take a gamble on something as important as your eternal destiny? You don't take chances with guns, do you? You don't take chances and run red lights, do you?

Why would you take a chance on something that is far more important than these? Don't take a chance on something eternal. It isn't worth it.

What is the value of your soul? Imagine if you were offered $1,000,000 for an eye for the purpose of an eye transplant. It could be taken out painlessly, and you be given a new glass eye which will look as good as your other eye, but it just won't look as good.

Would you sell an eye for $1,000,000? How about both for $20,000,000? No one in his right mind would. Your eyes are priceless, yet they are merely the windows of your soul.

Jesus said that your eyes are worth nothing, when compared to the value of your soul--"If your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast if from you, for it is better to enter Heaven without an eye than to go to Hell with both eyes" (Matt. 18:9). He asked, "What shall man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matt. 16:26)

Let's assume that the average person dies at 70 years old. Then, if you are 20 years old, you have just 2,500 weekends left to live. If you have turned 30, you have 2,000 weekends left until the day you die.

If you are 40 years old, you have only 1,500 weekends left. If you are 50 years old, then you have just 1,000 weekends, and if you are 60 years old, you have a mere 500 weekends left until the day death comes to you.
