TRY THE TEST

We met this evening in downtown Springfield, MO at "Movies at Founders Park".  It's a nice concrete park, with a fountain and various pictures and things to look at.  They show outdoor movies on the screen.  It's kind of like a drive in movie theater, only without the vehicles.

We had a lady come out with us that has not been out street witnessing before.  Her name is Genet.  She found me on my Repent And Turn Ministries YouTube account and contacted me.  Also doing the Lord's will was Chris, from my church - Christian Ministries Church.  We had Greg Marlin with Born of Him Ministries, and Mike & Traci Lynch (who witnesses on the college campus and various other places) come out, along with their kids.  They were staying to watch the movie - a fun family night - pass out gospel tracts and then watch a movie.

Mike and Traci brought the giant hundreds, a gospel tract that people will take from you and then come back and ask for more.

They passed out one of these gospel tracts to a gentleman, then he walked over and read it.

It was a slow evening at Founders Park.  There were quite a few people who came in to the movie, but there were a good number of us (Praise God), which caused us to take turns in passing out gospel tracts to folks.

There was one tough looking young man that had a blue goatee, and he had the hair in it twisted together and rubber-banded, so that he had a spiked goatee.  He had a t-shirt on that said something to the effect of "When I die, I hope it's while I'm doing something cool".

I walked up and tried to hand him one of our Millon Dollar Bill gospel tracts.  He refused it and said he already had gotten them before.  I started talking to him and asked if he thought he said he was a good person.  He said, "No".  When I asked him again, he said he was a good person.  He admitted to being a liar and a thief.  His friend began to leave, so he said he had to go.  I offered him a gospel tract again.  He took it this time.

I believe Greg was able to get into a witnessing conversation while here as well.

When the movie began, Greg, Chris, Genet and I decided to go to the Springfield Cardinals baseball game down the road at Hammons Field.

Hammons Field

Genet, who had not been out street witnessing before, had gospel tracts and was just passing them out to many of the people who walked out of the game.  She was friendly and was doing a great job.

Chris walked over to one side by the doors and was catching people when they came out, and passed out tracts to them as well.  Chris took most of the pictures tonight.

Greg decided to walk over to a big bus and began a witnessing conversation with the bus driver that lasted quite a while.  I believe Greg told me that the bus driver said that he believed that he was a Christian because he said he prayed a prayer before and his dad was a pastor.  Greg discussed with him God's law and told him what it meant to be born again.  However, after explaining all this, the man agreed with everything, like he already knew it.  Greg gave him his ministry card, which has a message on the back telling about the cost to follow Jesus.

I walked up to two teenage boys, who had just walked out of the ball game.  Their name is Chris and Justin.

I handed them a gospel tract and asked them if they thought they were a good person.  Both said yes.  I asked them if I could ask them a few questions.  They both admitted to being liars.  I let them know that all liars will have their part in the lake of fire - Revelation 21:8.

I asked if they had ever stolen anything, the value doesn't matter.  Chris said he never has, but Justin said he's had a problem with this one.  He admitted to being a thief.  I told him that the Bible says that no thieves will inherit the kingdom of God - I Corinthians 6:10.

I asked them if they have ever used God's name in vain - used God's name in place of a curse word.  Both said they have.  I let them know that the Lord will not hold them guiltless if they take His name in vain - Exodus 20:7.

I asked if they have ever hated someone.  They said they have.  I told them the Bible says he who hates his brother is a murderer -
I John 3:15, and that no murderer has eternal life.

Chris and Justin said they would be guilty when they stood before God on Judgment Day.  Chris said that he believed that he would go to hell.  Justin said he doesn't really believe in God.  I asked Justin that IF there was a God, and he stood before Him on the Day of Judgment, would he go to heaven or hell.  He admitted that if there is a God and hell, that he would be going to hell.

They said they didn't know what God did for us so that we wouldn't have to go to hell.

Note:  You would think that as many churches as there are out there, TV and radio evangelists, etc., that there wouldn't hardly be anyone who doesn't know what Jesus did for us and how we can go to heaven and avoid going to hell.  However, if you really begin talking to people, you will be shocked to find out how many don't have a clue.

I explained the courtroom scenario to them.  If you were in court, guilty of a crime, and didn't have the money to pay your fine, what would you do?  They are getting ready to haul you away to prison.  Then, all of a sudden, someone in the courtroom that you don't know, steps up and pays your fine.  Your fine has been paid and you have been set free.  How would you feel?

That is what God did for you by sending Jesus to pay your fine.

I told them that 2,000 years ago, God sent his only Son, Jesus, to this earth, to live a holy, sinless life.  He sacrificed himself on the cross and died, taking all sin upon himself.  He arose three days later and is now in heaven with God.

If we will repent - 2 Peter 3:9 says, God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.  Next we must believe in Jesus - John 3:16 says,   For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him will have eternal life.

The two teenagers listened, and were polite the entire time.  I thanked them for talking with me and they walked off.

There are so many people we can witness to when we go to the streets.  Many of these people will never darken the door of a church.  They will never hear a gospel message like this.  Most who proclaim to be Christians never witness to anyone in their daily lives.  They are too busy, too rushed, too worried about life, too worried about what others may think of them, or they just don't care.

I, for one, do not want to be the one that Jesus says this to:
"Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’" Mt. 7:22-23
I want to hear this:
"His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’" Mt. 25:21
We pray for each person that received a gospel tract from us tonight, for those we had a witnessing conversation with, and anyone that we were a witness to, just being out there for the Lord.

I hope this encourages other Christians to get active for the Lord.  He did not put you on this earth for it to be all about "you, you, you".  It's difficult to hear this.  I am praying for you.

God bless,

Brad St. Clair
