Street Witnessing

Taking My Church (CMC) Out to Street Witness

Park Central Square
Springfield, MO

  August 1, 2009

TRY THE TEST

Any time that I am able to go out and spread the gospel message it's a blessing.  However, tonight was especially special to me.  I was able to take 27 of our church members out to go street witnessing at Park Central Square, including our Pastor, Ashley Ellison, and his family.

My church is Christian Ministries Church.  I was able to teach evangelism on two Wednesday nights, which led to a church street witnessing event in downtown Springfield, which is roughly 27 miles from the church.

On August 22, 2009, the church will be offering a One Day Evangelism Training Crash Course.  Everyone is invited.  You don't have to be a church member to attend.  After the class, we will head to the Crane Broiler Festival to pass out tracts and witness, to put into practice what we've learned.  I will head up the class, as well as watching Way of the Master evangelism training videos and more.  Feel free to join us.

Group from the church

I asked Greg Marlin and Steve of Born of Him Ministries if they would assist as trainers, as we had so many people coming out.  They agreed and did so.  We thank God for them.

Pastor Ashley Witnessing

We met in front of the water fountain at Park Central Square.  We had some last minute instruction in passing out gospel tracts and witnessing, divided everyone up into teams so that each team would have an experienced street witnessing leader, prayed and set out.

Kelly and Her Witnessing Team

We had various stories from the teams, stating how they were passing out gospel tracts and getting into witnessing conversations with people during the evening.

With my team, we walked around the bus station and then walked up to a guy named Daniel, who was working one of the parking lots.  I handed him a Giant $100 gospel tract, told him it had a gospel message on the back and asked if he had a Christian background.  He said that he did, and that his dad is a minister.

I asked if he thought he was a good person.  He did.  I asked if I could ask him a few questions to see if it were true.  He said it was.  I took him through the law and the gospel.  He said he was a Christian.  We just went through and explained what it meant to be a Christian.  We must repent and believe in Jesus to be born again.

Luther-Our "Good Person Test" Volunteer

One of the last things we did, was gather in Park Central Square to ask some trivia questions and give away stuffed animals.  I had my microphone and speaker, which helped to project my voice all around the Square.  We gave away stuffed animals.  Then, I asked for a volunteer to receive the bigger stuffed animal.  Luther volunteered to take the good person test

Luther admitted to being a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer-at-heart.  He admitted he was guilty before God, but that he has asked for forgiveness.  I explained that Jesus said we must be born again to enter the kingdom of God.  There are a couple of things that we must do to be born again.  We must repent and believe.  After explaining exactly what that meant, I thanked Luther for participating.  We gave him the stuffed animal.  Later, he gave it to some of the kids in our group.  He was a nice guy.

The Church Team Wrapping Up

Pastor Ashley Giving Words of Encouragement

At the end of the evening, Pastor Ashley gave those in the church that came out some parting words of encouragement.  Both Greg and Steve also stepped up and said a few words to those who stepped out of their comfort zones to share the gospel.

We had a great time this evening, planting the seed of the gospel into the lives of those we came into contact with.  We pray that everyone who received a gospel tract, those who were witnessed to, and those who heard the open air preaching will be convicted of their sin.  We pray they will repent before God and trust in Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

I thank God for all those who came out tonight.  I know there were more who wanted to come out, but issues came up which prevented them from coming this time.

Here are all the pics that we have of the evening:
