TRY THE TEST

Downtown Springfield, Missouri

I went downtown to the Park Central Square area tonight with my daughter, Alexis.  We started out passing out gospel tracts and talking with anyone that God opened the door for us to talk to.

Melissa, Jay and Brian
As we passed by the bus station, we handed Melissa, Jay and Brian a gospel tract.  As we started talking with them, Jay ended up being the person that I focused on.  As I took them through the Law, you could see the conviction on Jay's face.

His eyes were bloodshot and he kept laughing at the wrong times, but he was thinking about what was being said.  I shared the gospel with them as well.  I thanked them for talking and shook their hands.  I told them that I would be praying for them.  Later, as we walked past where they had been sitting, we noticed that they had left their gospel tracts laying on the sidewalk.  I picked them up to use them again.

Phil
Alexis and I walked to the square, where the Sounds on the Square had music playing.  People were sitting around and listening to the music.  We passed out some tracts.

I handed one to a young man named Phil, and to a lady with him.  Phil said that he had a Christian background.  I asked him if he thought he was a good person.  He said yes.  I asked if I could ask him a few questions to see if that was true.  He then said a curse word and agreed.

Since he said he was a Christian, I just went through four of the Ten Commandments with him, to show him the importance of using the Law as a mirror, so that we can see ourselves in our true light.  That is why we need Jesus.  We shook hands and we walked off.

Amanda, James, Eric and Alexis (my daughter)

As we walked through the square, there were three people standing and dancing around the edge of the square.  Alexis mentioned them, so we decided to walk over and hand them a Million Dollar Bill gospel tract.

"Hi, did you get your million dollar bill yet tonight?"  They said no.  I handed them one and said that it has a gospel message on the back of it.  They didn't mind talking to us, so we talked with them.  They admitted to being lying, thieving (well, not Eric), blaspheming, adulterers at heart.

I explained that the reason the Law is used, is to show them that they have personally sinned against God, and that is the reason they are in need of Jesus.  We broke God's law and Jesus paid our fine.

James knew that we need to repent. I explained that repent means to confess and forsake sin, and do a complete 180 degree turn.  We must also believe in Jesus, and trust in Him to save us.  They did say this was a different way of hearing the gospel than they have heard.  They seemed to really be listening.  They were very nice and friendly.  We took their picture and I told them that I would be praying for them.

We thank God for allowing us to have every one of the encounters, both in Crane and in Springfield.  We pray the Holy Spirit convicts the hearts of each person that received a tract or that we've talked to.

Something I read from a book by Mark Cahill:  What is one thing you can’t do in heaven?  One thing you can’t do when you get to heaven is to witness to others.  You only have this short time that you have on earth to seek and save the lost.  Once you are in heaven, you can no longer be used by God to be the reason someone came to Christ to spend eternity in heaven.

If this were your last day on earth, would you look back with regret, knowing that you did not follow the commands of Jesus more often when he said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature" - Mark 16:15

In Christ,

Brad St. Clair
