Tonight I met up with the Jericho Riders in Downtown Springfield to do some street witnessing. No one was hanging out at Park Central Square tonight, so we walked up on South Avenue around Earnie Biggs Dueling Piano Bar. It is a loud and busy bar. We passed out gospel tracts to people walking into and out of the bar. We also had good one-2-one witnessing conversations with quite a few people throughout the night. Jim and George parked their bikes on the street in front of the bar, which led to some conversation starters as well.
I had a good one-2-one conversation with a young man named Randy from St. Louis and two young ladies. I gave him a million dollar bill gospel tract and asked him if he considered himself to be a good person. He admitted to being a liar, a thief, a blasphemer and an adulterer at heart. While we were talking, a woman walked by and he used God's name in vain and was lusting after her. I let him know that is what he was doing and he just dropped his head in acknowledgment that showed he was guilty.
I let him know that the Bible says that all liars will have their part in the lake of fire, that no thief or adulterer will enter the Kingdom of God and that the Lord will not hold him guiltless who uses His name in vain. He knew about Jesus dying on the cross and quoted John 3:16. We talked about how to be born again - we must repent (turn from sin) and trust (believe) in Jesus Christ alone for salvation.
He said that our conversation was the most interesting thing that happened to him since he moved here from St. Louis.
Kevin Thompson with the Jericho Riders witnessed to quite a few people tonight as well. If you haven't seen his video testimony yet, please watch it below. This video was produced by the Billy Graham Association.
Kevin just returned from a Way of the Master Ambassadors' Academy Evangelism Bootcamp. It is excellent training for someone who wants to go to the next level in learning how to share their faith in Christ.
While we were standing out on the street, a man walked up to Jim and George and began talking to them. This was the man that Jim and George talked to and prayed with last week. He was glad to see them again.
Jim and George witnesses to various folks during the night as well. It was good night of street witnessing.
A young man walked up and began talking to his friends next to us. His hair was cut short in some spots and long in others, as well as being different colors. He had multiple piercings in his eyebrows and lip, etc. I handed him a gospel tract and asked if I could talk to him. He said yes, so I asked him if he considered himself to be a good person, according to God's standards. He asked me to sit down on the bench with him and we would talk. He began reading the gospel tract questions, but I told him I could just ask him the questions. He said okay.
His name is Ryan, but his nickname is Lucky. We went through the law and the gospel. We must have talked for 20 minutes or more. He had good questions and concerns. He mentioned how he has been to all kinds of churches: Satanist, Wiccan, Buddism, etc. as well as Christiian churches. The Christian church folks just looked at him with very judgmental looks and not with love, etc. He said that is why he doesn't attend church. Now, I don't know if this is truly the reason he doesn't attend church, but this should be a good lesson to us, as Christians. We should show the love of God to everyone and be a witness for Christ. It shouldn't matter if someone is in a suit or someone with different colored hair and piercings all over their face that looks different from us.
He claimed to be a Christian, but he also admitted to various sins. He believed he could do various things which boarder line on sin without it being sin. We went over what being born again meant, the need to repent and turn from sin and to trust and believe in Jesus. I let him know that if he truly repented, prayed and read the Bible, that God would reveal to him if something was sin or not. I asked him if he would read a booklet if I gave it to him. He said that he would. It was a "Save Yourself Some Pain" booklet. He shook my hand and thanked me for taking the time to talk with him about this.
