TRY THE TEST

It had been storming and just finished raining.  The clouds were dark and it looked like it could bust out and rain some more.  Greg Marlin with Born of Him Ministries met me at Founders Park for movie night.  We began to pass out gospel tracts.

This is an old school newsletter.  There are only witnessing experiences information of the night, no pictures.

I was handing out my custom made
Millon Dollar Bill gospel tracts.  Some people gladly take them, some don't.  Sometimes I will tell people they have a gospel message on the back.  I did that tonight.  It makes things interesting sometimes.

I tried to hand a tract to a young lady named Brittany.  She looked at it, without taking it.  I told her it had a gospel message on the back.  She said that she didn't want it, that she believed in her own religion.  She started to walk away.

I asked her, "What religion do you believe in?"  She said, "I'd rather not say".  I said, "You mean you believe in a religion but you don't want to tell anyone about it?"  She said, "Okay, it's Wiccan".  (If you don't know, Wicca is a pagan witchcraft religion).  I started asking her a few questions about Wicca.  She said that her mother got her interested in it.  She likes it, because of the different spells and the strengths she gets from it.  She had to go back into the park, so she left.

Many who live life everyday and don't get out much may not be aware that there are all kinds of people in the world today.  Be friendly.  Ask people around you questions.  We all like to talk about ourselves.  If a door opens where you can witness to them, go for it.  If not, at least say something so that it will plant a seed of the Gospel in their lives.  They will see that you are a Christian and you cared enough to talk to them.

Many times when you hand a million dollar bill gospel tract to someone, the typical statement they will make is, "I wish this was real".  Greg was saying, "It is real paper".  That usually gets a laugh.

I went to pass out tracts to this group of three women.  I told them that it was a gospel tract.  One of them took it.  Another one of the ladies said she didn't want it, that she has a Bible.

There are times that professing Christians are some of the rudest people.  They appear to be offended / embarrassed that you are actually out in public passing out gospel messages in writing or have the nerve to speak to them about the things of Christ.  It makes me think of the following verse:

Mark 8:38:
For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.

Downtown Springfield

Greg and I left from there and walked to the downtown area.  We walked to the bus stop.  I went in and got a drink of water and placed a tract in the bus station.

As we were walking down the sidewalk, I handed tracts to a group of three ladies.  Well, I thought they were three ladies.  Once I looked closer, the one that had long curly dark hair and a pretty, short party dress on, was actually a guy.  I'm assuming "he" was a transvestite.
Deuteronomy 22:5:  A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman's garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God.
People are bold in their sin.  You never know what you will run into when you go street witnessing.  I stood around them and asked a few questions.  I wanted to get into a witnessing conversation, but it didn't work out.

As Greg and I were standing there, a man that had parked on the street opened his truck and one of the girls said, "Oh my gosh, you are here again!  Haven't you been cussed out and beat up on enough already?  You are here all the time!"  She wasn't happy.  She was referring to the man who had a bunch of hand-made signs in his truck.  They come out and stand on the street corner with their signs.  The signs really stir people up and make them talk.

I can't say that I necessarily agree with everything that is written on their signs, but it at least gets people thinking, talking about spiritual things among their friends and also gets folks to walk up and get into conversations with the group holding the sign.  Greg said that he has talked to the guy before.  I've also talked to one of them.  We don't exactly line up doctrinally with them, but I am glad they out being a witness.

There is a saying that goes something like this:
I like the way I might be doing it wrong better than the way you aren't doing anything.
At least they are doing something for the Lord, which is more than most Christians.  Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not only  talking about just going out in public to street witness, I'm talking about witnessing and being a witness in every day life as well.

8th Annual Moonlight Bike Ride

Greg said that there was a bike ride that was beginning soon.  They were meeting up in the parking lot of "Discovery Center".  We started walking over there and passing out gospel tracts to the bike riders.  When we reached the parking lot, it was packed with adults and children who were going to take part in the bike ride that night.

Greg and I split up and began passing out gospel tracts to both the bike riders and those just watching.  I walked into the building and noticed a rack holding various brochures about the bike ride.  I placed a handful of million dollar bill gospel tracts in the rack.  I hope people take some and read them.

After a while of passing them out, we began walking back to our vehicles.

I want to thank Greg for coming out witnessing tonight.  It is much better to go out with someone than going out alone.  There is strength in numbers.  Greg said tonight even Jesus sent them out in in twos:
Luke 10:1
After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go.
I also want to say thank you to my pastor, Ashley Ellison, from Christian Ministries Church.  He encourages and prays for me in these evangelism outreaches, and we also have folks from church coming out with us at times.

May the Holy Spirit convict all who was given a gospel tract, those we witnessed to (speaking) and those we were a witness to (letting our light shine).

God bless,

Brad St. Clair
