Broiler Festival 082710

Crane Broiler Festival

  August 27th & 28th, 2010

TRY THE TEST

On Friday, August 27th and Saturday, August 28th, the annual Crane Broiler Festival was held. Last year we attended this event, passing out bottled water and gospel tracts, and decided to do it again this year.  My church, Christian Ministries Church, believes in seeking and saving the lost, so we attend events like this, as well as go out to street witness.

This year, just as last, we put up a tent covering and table. We had cold bottled water in coolers and laid out a bunch of gospel tracts on the table.

We passed out approx. 1,000 bottles of water and 1,300 gospel tracts. We had quite a few show up from the church to ensure the booth was staffed. We are definitely a church who believes in seeking and saving the lost.

When you go out to an event like this, it's very important to always stay very spiritual and focused, so as to stay on task...

No, all kidding aside, we have a lot of fun while we are out sharing the gospel. We do need to be obedient and listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit when we are out, but nowhere does it say we can't use our personalities that God has given to us. Each of us is unique. There are things that only you can do - that's why God created a "you". Jesus told us in Mark 16:15, to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature". Acts 1:8 says, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses...". Matthew 5:16 says, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Also, James 2:14 & 2:19-20 says, "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?" We can talk all we want about being a witness, but it takes action on our part before God will move.

We were further down towards the back of the festival this year, which caused us to have less people walking by than last year. However, God knew that we would have that location, so the ones he wanted us to talk to, pass out a gospel tract to, or show kindness by giving cold water or a balloon animal, etc., we were able to. Praise God. When someone walked by our booth, we asked them if they wanted a free bottle of cold water. We gave them one, then offered them a gospel tract. Sometimes they didn't take the gospel tract and only the water. Other times they only took the gospel tract and not the water.

There were two elderly men who walked past the booth. They were handed one of the million dollar bill gospel tracts. The older of the two gentlemen took the tract and looked at the message on the back. He was told it was a gospel message. He and his friend began to make mocking comments towards the gospel and church, etc. When he gave the tract back, he was offered a bottle of ice water. They said no, and asked if we had whiskey instead. Within 5 or 10 minutes, this same elderly gentleman was passing out, being helped to the ground.

The paramedics came out and had to hook up machines to him and really check him out. The ambulance came out, but he didn't leave in it, he left with his friend in a personal vehicle. We never know when it will be our last moment on this earth. This very well could have been this man's last moment on earth...and he rejected the gospel within 10 minutes of passing out. Be faithful Christians, present the gospel every opportunity that you have. We never know when it may be someone's last chance to hear it. 150,000 people die each and every day in this world. We pray for each and every person we gave a gospel tract to, those we showed kindness to by offering a bottle of water or a balloon animal, etc. We pray the Holy Spirit convicts their heart so that they will repent and believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Those who may be Christians already, but struggling, we pray God uses our contact to draw them back to Him.
