Apple Butter Days 100910

Apple Butter Makin' Days Festival
Mt. Vernon, MO

  October 9, 2010

TRY THE TEST

Today we went to Mt. Vernon, Missouri, to the Apple Butter Makin' Days Festival.  This is the 44th year the festival has been held in the courthouse square.  It draws 40,000 to 45,000 people during the three day event.

We were able to open air preach a couple of times.  The videos are later in this newsletter.

I'd like to thank God for the following Christians who came out to be faithful and to be a witness for Christ.  My wife, Leann, and my daughter, Alexis.  Chris, from our S.W.A.T. Team street witnessing ministry at church.  My cousin, Melissa, and her husband, Torry, and friends from their church, Brad and Scott.  Last but not least, Teresa Stevens, with Royal Pathway Ministries, our friend and co-laborer in Christ, who has joined us at a good number of witnessing events.  In all, there were 9 of us out.  Our friend, Greg Marlin and his wife, Kim, from Born of Him Ministries, came out earlier and passed out gospel tracts and witnessed at the parade.

We parked four blocks away and walked to the square.  There were so many people packed into the square that it was difficult to just walk around.  We prayed, split off into teams and began to pass out gospel tracts.

Leann, Teresa and Alexis headed over to where folks were walking into the square.  They were passing out the Million Dollar Bill gospel tracts.  I guess people were thinking they had to have what they were passing out to get into the festival, because they were waiting in line to get a gospel tract from them.  Awesome.

We all passed out gospel tracts for a while and had witnessing conversations with various people.

It was time to do some open-air preaching.  We found a place on one corner of the square that still had a lot of pedestrian traffic, but where we wouldn't be blocking the walkway.  It just happened to be next to a Christian radio booth and the Sheriff's Department booth.  I figured if the Sheriff had anything to say, it would be as soon as we started our open-air.  However, we did not have any problems with the law today.  Praise God.

Brad Open-Air Preaching

During the course of my open air, I found out the lady that volunteered to take the "Good Person Test" (basically taking her through the 10 Commandments), was a Mormon.  This must have been a busy day at the festival for Mormon's, as we had an hour long discussion with 5 of them later - discussed further in this newsletter.

Teresa Open-Air Preaching

When I did my open-air, I just gave out stuffed animals for the trivia questions and good person volunteer, however, Teresa was trying to make me look bad by giving out cold, hard, cash.  ;-)  She gave out $1.00 bills for trivia and $15.00 to the good person volunteer.

After the preaching, we had a couple of people come up and talk to us, asking who we are with and questions like that.  It's always great to be able to explain to other Christians why we are out actively sharing the gospel.  Many / most Christians do not understand the importance of being a witness for Christ.  Any time the opportunity arises where we are able to share the priority of evangelism in our lives, we make the most of it.

The Bible says in Luke 19:10, "the Son of Man has come to seek and save that which was lost."  Jesus' last words to us before he left this earth in Mark 16:15, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."  Matthew 5:15-16, "
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

As we were wrapping up and getting ready to get something to eat, a teenage girl came up with one of the gospel tracts we were passing out and asked Teresa, "What church are you with?"  That opened a door to a conversation with her and her 4 friends that lasted over an hour.  You see, they were Mormons.  They were very smart, well versed, Mormons.  In case you don't know much about Mormons, it is a not Biblical, and not a Christian religion.  Satan has them deceived.  It was very sad to see.

Teresa witnessing to the Mormons

You can watch an excellent online video explaining what Mormons believe Here

Teresa primarily led the discussion with their leader, London.  London was really listening to what Teresa had to say.  At times, she was very frustrated and upset, and crying.  Teresa told her that she (London) has doubts about the Mormon "religion".  It is so sad to see how satan has blinded the eyes of so many in this world, and in this cult.  Please pray for these teenagers.

Teresa and some of our group witnessing to the Mormons

I gave them my ministry card and asked them to send me an e-mail, where I can get them further information, videos, or to possibly talk to a friend of ours that came out of the Mormon background.  I hope they contact me.  Even if they don't, we pray the Holy Spirit convicts them and draws them to Him and shows them the false religion they are in.

I pray the Holy Spirit convicts the hearts of those that heard the gospel and the truth this day.  May God receive all the glory.
